🎓 Celebrating the Class of 2026!

At the Petey Greene Program, graduation season is one of our favorite times of the year. Throughout the month, we are celebrating ten incredible PGP students, tutors, and partners who are reaching major academic milestones. Let’s start by shining a bright spotlight on these two inspiring individuals:

  • Taneshia Brock graduated from the Borough of Manhattan Community College with her associate degree in Health Science and was just accepted into a four-year nursing program!

  • Jarret Orcutt, a partner to the Puttkammer Center for Educational Justice, graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA from Truckee Meadows Community College and is heading to the University of Nevada, Reno, for his master's degree!

Forget coaxing sleepy freshmen awake at 8 a.m.. Michelle King’s students at the carceral facility where she tutors are hungry to be there. The motivation, the engagement, the seriousness of purpose: it’s already in the room when she walks in. She followed a lifelong calling and found that her students had as much to teach her as she had to teach them. This is especially true of the two incarcerated scholars who serve as tutors in her classroom.
