PGP NJ partnership with Rutgers Mountainview Community and NJ-STEP

During the Spring 2021 semester, the Petey Greene Program New Jersey partnered with the Rutgers University Mountainview Community to offer one-on-one virtual tutoring services to returning citizens enrolled at Rutgers University. PGP NJ tutors supported students in courses ranging from writing-intensive seminars to statistics.

The Mountainview Community provides wrap-around services and support for NJ-STEP students continuing their college degree work at Rutgers University’s New Brunswick, Newark, and Camden campuses. NJ-STEP students who have completed their Associate’s degree or have begun their Bachelor’s degree while incarcerated and maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher, are eligible to attend Rutgers University, with ongoing support from the Mountainview Community.

The partnership has proven successful and continues this summer.

Adapting not only to a pandemic, but to the genuine needs of our students has indexed Petey Greene’s mission. Connecting currently and formerly
incarcerated individuals to education as a priority has never been more clear. We truly appreciate your efforts that have provided so much for our students during a time of great need.
