Justice Education Series, Chew on This: Food Justice Behind Bar

Food justice asserts that ALL communities deserve access to nutritious, culturally-relevant, safe, and affordable food. But what if you’re in a prison or jail? How do spaces of confinement present unique challenges in accessing food and what are the impacts to individuals? Join us for our Justice Education Series panel and discussion, “Chew on This: Food Justice Behind Bars” on September 17 at 6PM to learn more about how organizations are advocating for the right to healthy food in carceral spaces. Our panelists include Daniel Rosen (The Coalition for Carceral Nutrition) and Heile Gantan (Impact Justice).

BONUS: The webinar kicks off Going Greene,  PGP’s Annual Awareness Week and Benefit for Educational Justice.

Our theme, “The Right Ingredients for Change,” is intended to raise awareness about challenges related to food insecurity and unemployment that returning citizens face.

There are so many ways to get involved:

  • Attend the Going Greene Benefit on Thursday, September 25th at 6:00 PM at Rivers Casino Philadelphia!  Far from Philadelphia? No problem, join us virtually with a pay-what-you-can donation, or donate a ticket so a justice-impacted student can attend.

  • Join the PGP team as an Event Volunteer for one or more of our Going Greene Awareness Week events.

  • Stay tuned for updates on live and virtual events throughout our Educational Justice Awareness Week, September 17-25
