Annual Awareness Week and Benefit for Educational Justice
September 25 | 6 PM | Rivers Casino Philadelphia
The Petey Greene Program presents Going Greene, our Annual Awareness Week and Benefit for Educational Justice. Going Greene brings together and celebrates our students, volunteers, donors, staff, community, and other individuals who have played a significant role in furthering our mission of supporting the academic and career goals of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people through high-quality tutoring and other educational programs.
Ralph Waldo “Petey” Greene spent his life as a pioneering community organizer, civil rights activist, media personality, and consummate storyteller who used his talents to raise awareness about issues ranging from poverty and income inequality to the structural barriers facing formerly incarcerated people.
Join us in September at Going Greene to continue the legacy. This year’s theme will focus on uplifting awareness about challenges related to unemployment and food insecurity that returning citizens face, and inventive, impactful solutions to these challenges coming out of the Food, Beverage, and Hospitality industries.
We will honor Brandon Chrostowski, an award-winning chef, including 2025 James Beard Honoree for the Impact Awards, and founder of the EDWINS Leadership and Restaurant Institute, a transformative model for holistically reentry; EDWINS students receive intensive training and hands-on work experience preparing them for a career in the hospitality and fine dining sector, while receiving support with basic needs, including free housing and basic medical care, legal services, clothing, job coaching, and educational support.
