The Petey Greene Program Announces Leadership Transition

The Petey Greene Program (PGP) announces that Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Abramowitz will be departing the organization to pursue a new professional opportunity.
Over the past three years, Jeff has led the organization through a period of meaningful growth and expanded impact. Under his leadership, The Petey Greene Program strengthened its educational programming, deepened partnerships across the field, launched a major partnership with the New York City Department of Correction, and helped establish the Puttkammer Center for Educational Justice. We are grateful for Jeff's service, vision, and commitment to advancing educational opportunities for people impacted by incarceration.
The Board of Trustees fully supports Jeff's decision and wishes him every success in the next chapter of his professional and personal life. We are confident that the strong foundation established during his tenure positions The Petey Greene Program for continued success.
The Board is pleased to share that Trustee Dr. Amy Lopez, a distinguished leader and expert in the field of carceral and reentry education, has agreed to serve as Interim CEO during this transition. Dr. Lopez brings over 40 years of field experience, including 25 years in executive leadership across public and correctional education, workforce development, and nonprofit administration, as well as a deep understanding of PGP’s mission. She has held senior leadership roles in state and federal correctional systems and has worked alongside Petey Greene Program volunteers in her role as Deputy Director at the DC Department of Corrections.
The Board is working closely with Amy, Jeff and the organization's executive team to ensure continuity and sustained momentum in our work.
The Petey Greene Program remains firmly committed to our students, volunteers, partners, and mission to increase access to educational opportunities for justice-impacted people.
