Survey: College Bridge Programs for Justice Impacted Students

On July 1, 2023, the restoration of Pell Grants for incarcerated people took effect. This change has the potential to significantly expand access to higher education programs behind the walls of our prisons and jails.

However, the work of the Petey Greene Program (PGP) has proven that this access alone is not enough: the majority of people who will now be eligible for these higher education programs do not have the educational background or confidence to take advantage of them.

The Coalition for Adult Basic Education (COABE) launched a survey to get a better understanding of the need for College Bridge Programs that help incarcerated people acquire the writing, critical thinking and math skills to access Pell funded higher education programs.

If relevant to you, please take the COABE survey now. If you are interested in learning more about the need for College Bridge programs and how the PGP is filling the gap, read our report on the progress of our programs thus far.
