Spotlight Series: Massachusetts and Rhode Island

The Petey Greene Program operates across the United States as the largest multi-state provider of individualized educational services for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated students. We’re excited to give you a closer look at each of our regions, starting with our programs in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

MEET THE TEAM

Lynne Sullivan, Regional Manager

Lynne is a firm believer in education. She believes that education is the key to ending recidivism, one student at a time. “Education gives a person options, the option to choose a different path in life, the option to be who they never thought they could be.” It is an opportunity to break the generational cycles and instill new pathways and opportunities.

Azure Mauche, Division Manager

Azure approaches her work at the Petey Greene Program with the belief that one-to-one supportive tutoring relationships are an essential ingredient for building accessible pathways to well-being, educational attainment, and social mobility for all students.

Nina Mitukiewicz, Division Manager

Nina believes in the power of sharing knowledge and building connection between tutors and students. "Tutoring is more than just teaching academic content - the tutor-student dynamic is a place of reciprocal learning about themselves, each other, and the world at large. Tutoring helps build self-confidence and self-worth for students, showing that they can accomplish their goals and then some."

THE PGP IN ACTION

The PGP serves over 400 youth across the state of Massachusetts through a partnership with the Department of Youth Services and the Collaborative for Educational Services. We support youth and emerging adults as they prepare for the HiSet and MCAS; improve reading, writing, math, and science; and prepare for college. The relationship between students and tutors goes beyond completing worksheets or problem sets: “Sometimes, our students want to know more about college and their tutor’s experience and what careers they could have based on their interests. They get to have open conversations with each other,” shares Division Manager, Nina Mitukiewicz.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR MASSACHUSETTS AND RHODE ISLAND?

We're always working to pilot new services and grow partnerships that help our students reach their educational and career goals. The PGP collaborates with the Charlestown Adult Education Program, a comprehensive reentry service provider, to support their students with wraparound educational support through HiSET and GED preparation for returning citizens. Throughout 2025, we are excited to continue growing the number of students we work with through this program as we expand the PGP’s footprint in reentry.
