Since we started working in 2007, we’ve been tracking the quality of our programs by collecting quantitative data about the volume of volunteers and their attendance rates as well as qualitative data about the tutors’ and students’ experiences in the program. This year, we’ve begun to expand the amount and types of data we collect about our programming. Our aims are to standardize the service we provide, to evaluate our outcomes and impacts on students, tutors, universities, and prisons and jails, and to improve our practices. So far, we’ve been monitoring and codifying our volunteer management practices. The next step is to do student interviews and track student academic progress to identify our impacts on students.
